Intel Xeon E5-2600 v2 is Ready to Support Server
Intel launches new family of Xeon processor E5 -2600 v2 ( code-named Ivy Bridge – EP ) for computing devices dual – socket servers and workstations , which is claimed to increase performance and create more efficient than previous generations .
Latest processor built with 22 nano- meter fabrication process ( nm ) , offering up to 45 percent power efficiency and performance improvement of about 50 percent , compared with Xeon processor E5 – 2600 v1 .
Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Datacenter and Connected Systems Group Intel , Diane Bryant said processor family is ideally suited to handle different workloads computer servers , storage , and networking .
Number of core ( core ) up on the Xeon processor E5 -2600 v2 upgraded from 8 cores to 12 cores , with 20MB of Level 3 cache to 30MB . As for the maximum increase of 200MHz operation , bringing the fundamental frequency of 3.5 GHz and a turbo frequency of 4GHz .
Two new security features introduced in the family of processors , the OS Guard , which isolates the operating system from malware attacks .
Indeed, the family of Xeon E5 -2600 processors are built in three variants v2 for target workload varies .
First , is the 4-6 core processor with 15MB of L3 cache and 40 to 80W Thermal Design Power ( TDP ) . Secondly , 6-10 core processor with 25MB of L3 cache and 70 to 130 W TDP .
And the last , 12 -core processor with 30MB of L3 cache and 115 to 130W TDP . This variant includes an additional 12 core memory controller to improve the memory bandwidth .
Intel Xeon processor E5 family -2600 v2 will be used on IBM NextScale System , IBM X3650 M4HD , and others . In addition , Dell also has selected the latest processors for data storage solutions .
Xeon E5 -2600 already delivered and are in price range of 202 to 2,614 dollars if purchased in quantities of 1,000 . Meanwhile , three single – socket Intel Xeon processor E5 -1600 will be offered for workstations with price range 294 to 1,080 U.S. dollars .
